Sebagian mengapung di permukaan cairan aluminium atau menempel pada dinding tungku, dan tetesan-tetesan aluminium tersebut serta permukaan cairan peleburan mengalami oksidasi kembali, yang juga membentuk inklusi. Begitu inklusi tersebut tercampur ke dalam strip yang dicetak dan digulung, hal ini akan menyebabkan cacat seperti inklusi terak dan lapisan oksida. Hal ini secara signifikan mengurangi sifat mekanis dan ketahanan korosi produk. Sifatnya padat dan kokoh; baik dalam keadaan padat maupun cair, alumina mudah membentuk lapisan pelindung padat yang melekat erat pada permukaan. Lapisan aluminium oksida, ketika terkena benturan dalam keadaan cair, dapat dengan mudah menjadi lapisan yang terpecah-pecah, sehingga menyebabkan kerusakan terbesar. Meskipun kepadatan alumina dapat mencapai 3~4 g\/cm\u00b3, pada suhu tinggi kepadatan tersebut hanya 2,3~2,4 g\/cm\u00b3, yang hampir sama dengan kepadatan larutan aluminium. Oleh karena itu, dalam cairan aluminium cair, partikel-partikel tersebut sebenarnya berada dalam keadaan tersuspensi.<\/p>\n<p>Setelah terak teroksidasi mengeras, terak tersebut dicampurkan ke dalam strip cor. Hal ini karena terak tersebut tidak dapat larut dalam paduan aluminium maupun membentuk senyawa antara dengan unsur-unsur lain. Slag tersebut hanya dapat tersebar dalam keadaan padat di batas-batas butir, sehingga merusak gaya ikatan antar butir. Adanya slag teroksidasi yang merusak gaya ikatan antar butir ini telah menimbulkan banyak bahaya, mengurangi kinerja proses selama pengolahan bertekanan, dan menyebabkan delaminasi logam selama pengolahan, yang berujung pada retakan. Kekuatan produk aluminium menjadi tidak stabil, dan tingkat elongasinya berkurang secara signifikan. Peralatan tersebut dipasang di antara tungku dan mesin pengecoran, dengan tujuan utama untuk menghilangkan gas dan menghilangkan kotoran.
