Dalam kondisi pemadatan normal yang mencakup seluruh rentang proses pengecoran komersial, paduan aluminium tanpa proses penyempurnaan butir menunjukkan struktur kolumnar kasar dan\/atau struktur ekuaksial kasar.<\/p>\n<p>Struktur butir halus juga meminimalkan dampak terhadap kemampuan pengecoran dan sifat-sifat yang terkait dengan ukuran serta distribusi senyawa intermetalik yang biasanya terbentuk. Partikel intermetalik yang besar dan tidak larut, yang sudah ada atau terbentuk pada rentang suhu antara liquidus dan solidus, mengurangi aliran logam cair. Dampak utama inklusi adalah mengurangi penampang efektif logam saat berada di bawah beban. Dampak yang lebih merusak terhadap sifat-sifat logam adalah terjadinya konsentrasi tegangan ketika inklusi muncul di permukaan atau dekat permukaan komponen atau spesimen. Kinerja kelelahan berkurang dalam kondisi terakhir ini akibat efek lekukan.
