Secara umum, keramik berpori adalah bahan filter keramik yang terbuat dari bahan baku tahan api sebagai agregat dan dicampur dengan bahan pengikat yang telah disinter pada suhu tinggi. Strukturnya memiliki sejumlah besar pori-pori. Pori-pori halusnya memiliki ukuran pori yang dapat dikontrol. Dibandingkan dengan bahan filter lainnya, bahan filter keramik berpori memiliki porositas tinggi hingga 60%, ukuran pori yang seragam, dan mudah dikontrol.
