Tundish ini terdiri dari dua wadah yang saling terhubung. Cangkang luarnya terbuat dari pelat baja dan dilapisi bagian dalam melalui proses pengelasan, sedangkan cangkang dalamnya terbuat dari bahan tahan api seperti tanah liat aluminosilikat atau wol asbes. Dalam proses pengecoran rol, cairan disimpan dan dijaga pada ketinggian tertentu untuk terus-menerus memasok aluminium cair ke area pengecoran rol. Fungsi dasarnya adalah mengontrol tekanan aluminium cair yang mengalir ke celah rol dari nosel pengumpan, artinya, aluminium cair di dalam kotak pengatur aliran harus dipertahankan pada ketinggian yang relatif stabil. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketinggian kotak depan sesuai dengan jari-jari lapisan oksida antara rol nozel dan proses pengecoran serta penggulungan tetap berada dalam keseimbangan dinamis, sehingga proses pengecoran dan penggulungan dapat dilanjutkan.<\/p>\n<p>Ketika tingkat cairan di tundish rendah, jari-jari lapisan oksida di antara rol nozel akan bertambah, lapisan oksida tersebut akan memanjang, dan lapisan oksida itu sendiri akan mengalami tegangan kecil sehingga tidak mudah rusak. Pada saat ini, kualitas permukaan pelat menjadi lebih baik. Namun, kadar aluminium berada pada tingkat yang relatif rendah, dan akibat kurangnya pasokan logam, permukaan pelat rentan mengalami cacat rongga.<\/p>\n<p>Ketika tingkat cairan di tundish tinggi, tekanan hidrostatik logam cair juga tinggi; artinya, semakin besar tekanan statisnya, semakin kecil jari-jari lapisan oksida logam cair, dan semakin tipis lapisan oksida tersebut.
