Bola aluminium oksida digunakan sebagai media penyaring yang dimasukkan ke dalam cairan aluminium, dan cairan aluminium tersebut dialirkan ke dalam tungku pemurnian melalui lapisan filter bola aluminium oksida serta dibilas dengan nitrogen. Pengotor non-logam dan hidrogen terlarut dalam cairan aluminium dihilangkan dan kemudian dibuang secara terus-menerus, sehingga gelembung nitrogen tersebar merata dalam cairan aluminium yang akan diproses untuk pemurnian.
