Artinya, pengotor tersebut diubah menjadi fase kedua yang bermanfaat melalui metode paduan guna meningkatkan kinerja bahan. Jika penghilangan tersebut memang harus dilakukan, dalam kebanyakan kasus, perbedaan titik didih unsur-unsur yang berbeda dimanfaatkan untuk melakukan distilasi selektif pada suhu tinggi dan tekanan rendah guna mencapai tujuan penghilangan pengotor logam.<\/p>\n<p>Paduan aluminium yang dilebur dari bahan limbah yang mengandung aluminium sering kali mengandung unsur-unsur logam yang melebihi batas standar, yang harus dihilangkan sebanyak mungkin. Oksidasi selektif dapat digunakan untuk menghilangkan berbagai pengotor logam yang memiliki afinitas lebih besar terhadap oksigen daripada aluminium, serta oksigen itu sendiri, dari cairan peleburan. Misalnya, magnesium, seng, kalsium, zirkonium, dan unsur-unsur lainnya mempercepat proses oksidasi unsur-unsur pengotor tersebut dengan cara mengaduk cairan logam.
