Tungku peleburan umumnya menggunakan tungku reverberatory berbahan bakar gas atau berbahan bakar minyak, dengan kapasitas umum 20\u201340 ton atau lebih; tungku reverberatory dengan pemanasan resistansi juga digunakan, dan kapasitasnya umumnya sekitar 10 ton. Untuk mempersingkat waktu pemuatan tungku, meningkatkan efisiensi peleburan, mengurangi penyerapan gas dan keterlibatan lapisan oksida, industri ini telah mengadopsi tungku bundar dengan pemuatan atas yang dapat dimiringkan.
