Misalnya, selama proses penggulungan selanjutnya, retakan pada ingot atau slab dapat menyebar, sehingga mengakibatkan biaya perbaikan yang mahal atau bahkan material yang retak harus dibuang seluruhnya. Sebagian besar ingot diproses dengan cara tertentu. Namun, proses pengolahan tidak dapat memperbaiki ingot yang retak.
