Paduan tersebut dilelehkan untuk memicu pembentukan kristal silikon yang relatif kecil selama proses pengkristalan. Dibandingkan dengan kasus di mana tidak digunakan bahan penghalus struktur, produk cor yang dihasilkan menunjukkan peningkatan sifat mekanis, seperti keuletan, kekuatan, dan sebagainya.
