Jika udara terkompresi tidak ditambahkan ke kristalisator, lelehan akan langsung bersentuhan dengan dinding bagian dalam kristalisator, dan panas dari lelehan tersebut diserap oleh sistem pendingin primer untuk membentuk cangkang yang mengkristal.
