Bahan ini berfungsi untuk melindungi logam secara pasif dari oksidasi serta menghilangkan unsur-unsur tambahan yang menjadi pengotor dari aluminium cair.<\/p>\n<p>Flux pemurnian di pabrik pengecoran terutama digunakan untuk mengurangi kandungan hidrogen dan inklusi. Hidrogen terlarut merupakan salah satu pengotor paling umum dalam aluminium cair dan sangat tidak diinginkan. Hidrogen menjadi masalah karena tidak larut dalam aluminium padat. Hidrogen terlarut dalam aluminium cair akan mengendap selama proses pemadatan dan menyebabkan pori-pori pada material. Inklusi dapat didefinisikan sebagai partikel padat non-logam yang tersuspensi dalam cairan logam. Jumlah partikel tersebut sangat bergantung pada kualitas dan kebersihan bahan baku.
