Selain itu, pemeliharaan dan pengoperasian instalasi klorinasi juga menimbulkan banyak masalah.<\/p>\n<p>Dengan menggunakan magnesium klorida (MgCl\u2082) sebagai bahan pelebur, kontaminasi dapat dibatasi hingga tingkat yang dapat diterima, serta natrium dan kalsium dapat dihilangkan. Sayangnya, MgCl\u2082 bersifat sangat higroskopis. Setelah terhidrasi, senyawa ini akan terurai menjadi asam klorida (HCl), oksida magnesium (MgO), dan\/atau oksiklorida magnesium pada suhu aluminium cair, yang secara signifikan mengurangi efektivitasnya.<\/p>\n<p>Selain itu, titik lelehnya yang relatif tinggi (720\u00b0C) merupakan kelemahan lainnya, karena untuk memastikan kelancaran aliran yang memadai, bahan tersebut harus dipanaskan hingga suhu mendekati 800\u00b0C, dan dalam kebanyakan kasus, penggunaan aluminium akan dihindari sebisa mungkin.
