Oksigen bereaksi dengan aluminium cair sehingga menghasilkan aluminium oksida. Hidrogen (H) terurai menjadi atom hidrogen (H) dan larut ke dalam aluminium cair. Oleh karena itu, pelarutan hidrogen dalam aluminium cair tidak dapat dihindari, dan seberapa banyak hidrogen yang terlarut bergantung pada kelembapan udara. Karena kelarutan hidrogen dalam aluminium cair jauh lebih besar daripada dalam aluminium padat, pori-pori akan terbentuk di batas butir kristal selama penurunan suhu yang tajam akibat hidrogen terlarut saat proses pemadatan. Biasanya selama proses kondensasi, seiring berkurangnya kelarutan hidrogen, hidrogen sudah terlambat untuk keluar dari larutan, dan inklusi non-logam juga terlambat untuk mengapung ke permukaan cairan sebelum memasuki kristalisator, yang akan menyebabkan munculnya lempengan dan foil pada proses penggulungan selanjutnya. Bintik-bintik putih dan lubang kecil pada permukaan material semakin banyak, dan sifat mekanis material menurun, yang pada akhirnya menyebabkan produk menjadi limbah. Ketika gelembung gas inert naik dari dasar ruang peleburan, karena tekanan parsial hidrogen dalam gelembung-gelembung ini adalah 0, hidrogen dalam logam cair akan terus berdifusi ke dalam gelembung hingga tekanan parsial hidrogen dalam gelembung meningkat untuk menyamai konsentrasi hidrogen dalam logam cair. Keseimbangan tercapai ketika terdapat hubungan tertentu. Setelah gelembung naik ke permukaan, hidrogen di dalam gelembung tersebut melarikan diri ke atmosfer. Dalam proses gelembung mengapung, ketika menemui inklusi non-logam, inklusi tersebut menempel pada permukaan gelembung akibat efek tegangan permukaan. Inklusi-inklusi ini dihilangkan seiring gelembung naik.
