Efisiensi filtrasi aluminium cair berkaitan dengan ukuran sel filter busa keramik alumina. Dengan mengontrol ukuran sel di dalam filter secara cermat, kinerja filtrasi yang lebih konsisten dapat dicapai. Oleh karena itu, aluminium cair atau paduan yang diperoleh melalui peleburan ulang skrap aluminium tersebut cenderung mengandung berbagai inklusi, termasuk inklusi non-logam. Inklusi non-logam tersebut berupa oksida yang semula terkandung dalam skrap aluminium yang digunakan sebagai bahan baku cair, oksida yang dihasilkan oleh reaksi dengan pengotor yang terkandung di dalamnya, dan sejenisnya. Sisa aluminium bereaksi dengan oksigen atmosfer selama proses peleburan ulang. Dibandingkan dengan penggunaan bijih aluminium, masalah inklusi oksida menjadi lebih serius ketika sisa aluminium digunakan sebagai bahan baku. Inklusi oksida tersebut antara lain adalah alumina (Al\u2082O\u2083), spinel (MgAl\u2082O\u2084), dan magnesia (MgO).<\/p>\n<p>Oleh karena itu, saat menggunakan aluminium bekas dari produk paduan aluminium tersebut sebagai sebagian atau seluruh bahan baku aluminium, inklusi setidaknya harus dihilangkan dari Al cair yang diperoleh melalui proses peleburan bahan baku aluminium. Oleh karena itu, selain langkah-langkah pemurnian seperti penghilangan gas dari aluminium cair menggunakan fluks, dilakukan pula langkah-langkah untuk menghilangkan inklusi dari aluminium cair, seperti metode sterilisasi, metode gas aktif, dan penyaringan aluminium cair.<\/p>\n<p>Berdasarkan metode pemisahan ini, aluminium cair dibiarkan dalam keadaan tenang. Karena berat jenis inklusi berbeda dengan berat jenis aluminium cair, keadaan tenang ini dapat menyebabkan inklusi dalam aluminium cair mengapung atau mengendap ke dasar wadah aluminium cair. Oleh karena itu, pemisahan inklusi dari aluminium cair dapat tercapai. Namun, efisiensi pemisahannya sangat rendah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh 1) perbedaan berat jenis antara setiap inklusi dan aluminium cair tidak cukup besar, dan 2) daya basah di antara keduanya cukup tinggi. Oleh karena itu, meskipun metode ini dilakukan dalam jangka waktu yang lama, tetap terdapat masalah di mana sejumlah besar inklusi tetap tertinggal di dalam aluminium cair.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut metode gas aktif, gas inert atau gas halogen dimasukkan ke dalam Al cair untuk menghasilkan gelembung. Inklusi menempel pada gelembung dan mengapung bersama di dalam Al cair, sehingga inklusi tersebut terpisah dari Al cair. Metode ini sangat menguntungkan terutama untuk menghilangkan gas seperti hidrogen. Namun, gelembung-gelembung yang naik tersebut menyebabkan permukaan aluminium cair bergelombang hebat dan dengan demikian mengaduk aluminium cair tersebut. Hal ini menimbulkan masalah lain, yaitu lapisan aluminium oksida yang terbentuk di permukaan aluminium cair cenderung tercampur ke dalam aluminium cair, yang pada gilirannya menyebabkan peningkatan jumlah inklusi aluminium oksida.<\/p>\n<p>Menurut metode penyaringan aluminium cair, aluminium cair dialirkan melalui filter tahan api untuk menghilangkan inklusi di dalamnya. Partikel inklusi yang lebih besar dapat dihilangkan dari aluminium cair. Namun, partikel inklusi berukuran 100 \u03bcm atau lebih kecil\u2014yang merupakan sebagian besar inklusi\u2014sulit untuk dihilangkan. Secara khusus, partikel inklusi berukuran sangat kecil sekitar 10 hingga 25 \u03bcm sulit dihilangkan, meskipun penghilangan tersebut tidak dapat dihindari untuk menghasilkan paduan aluminium berkualitas tinggi.
