Cast Ceramic Foam Filter for Aluminum Liquid Purification

The cast ceramic foam filter plays a very important role in the aluminum liquid purification system. The ceramic filter plate can effectively remove large inclusions in molten aluminum, effectively remove micron-sized inclusions, improve surface quality and product performance, improve microstructure functions, and increase yield. As long as it is used for precision casting of aluminum alloys such as aviation and transportation.

The ceramic foam filter plate uses a three-dimensional network structure and a porous organic carrier to invade the special thixotropic ZrO2 melt, and uses the square-corrected center distance automatic extrusion process to uniformly coat the slurry on the carrier foam. The skeleton is 1680 It is dried and cured at a high temperature of ℃ every year, and sealed with expanded cotton cloth.

Cast Ceramic Foam Filter

EL Aluminium Billet (M) SDN BHD said that the commonly used ceramic filter plate specifications are: 7 inches, 9 inches, 12 inches, 15 inches, 17 inches, 20 inches, 23 inches, 26 inches or customized according to user’s special requirements.
The range is from 1.5×1.5×0.5 inches to 26x26x2 inches and 28x24x2 inches.

EL Aluminum recommends using a 6 x 6 inch or larger filter with a thickness of 1.25 inches or 2 inches instead of the usual 7/8 inches.
The advantage of the 1.25 inch thick filter is that the bending strength is significantly higher than that of the 7/8 inch thick filter. Therefore, the filter can also be used for larger castings or longer casting times.
Customize the solution as needed (for example, cone filter).
The porosity of the cast foam filter is PPI 10, 20 and 30 respectively, and higher porosity can be provided upon request, up to PPI 60.
The choice of porosity depends on the cleanliness that should be achieved. Usually, ppi10 or ppi20 is used in daily production because these porosities provide a good relationship between filtration capacity and filtration efficiency.
For castings with higher mechanical strength and/or higher surface appearance requirements (such as automotive applications), PPI 30 filters are recommended.

Choose the right aluminum cast ceramic foam filter size

The following two basic rules apply to ceramic foam filters in aluminum casting applications: Filtering capacity: approximately 14.2-28.4 lb/in 2 casting speed: approximately 0.7-1.42 lb/in 2 * s

Up to 4 x 4 inch filters can be placed vertically or horizontally in the mold/runner. Larger filters can only be placed horizontally. It is not recommended to place the filter at the bottom of the descending channel because it will greatly increase the risk of filter damage. When using ceramic foam filters, it is recommended to use a “pressureless” casting system to prevent the oxidation of molten aluminum during the casting process.
