Mold Coating for Aluminum Foundry

For a specific casting, if the mold coating is selected correctly, the coating operation is stable and controllable. In theory, qualified castings can be obtained. However, in the actual casting process, application operation is usually considered the most variable link. Therefore, it is very important to carefully prepare the mold before coating, prepare for coating and choose the coating tool used.

Mold Coating

The applied substrate is extremely important to the performance of the coating. Before applying a new mold, the new mold must be cleaned thoroughly to remove all grease and rust spots. The used mold must be completely removed from the original coating. The traditional method of cleaning molds is to use a wire brush to remove surface dirt. This method usually causes excessive wear on the mold surface or small cracks on the mold surface. Therefore, people are looking for new non-destructive cleaning methods to clean metal surfaces.

The cleaned mold should be evenly heated to about 300-350°C. The heating method usually uses a gas burner to evenly distribute the flame in all parts of the mold.

When coating, the mold temperature should usually be cooled to about 180°C first, and the primer layer usually uses an aqueous solution containing a surfactant or a highly diluted coating, which can improve the adhesion of the coating to the mold surface.

Before applying the mold coating, the original coating should be evenly stirred and diluted to the required concentration and viscosity. If the construction time is long, during the construction process, the viscosity and concentration of the coating, coating thickness and mold temperature must be regularly measured and adjusted.

Our AdTech company provides mold coatings, including boron nitride coatings, refractory mortar repair materials, aluminum ingot mold coatings.

Boron nitride coating (BN series): It is a liquid active boron nitride protective coating with good effects. It can be mixed with water and used for fused silica linings, risers, refractory casting materials, brick linings, floats, flow tanks, various ladle and metal tool surfaces, and is especially suitable for the surface of ceramic products, such as shunt discs, runners, and filters The box and degassing box are used for hot-top casting, and play a good role of non-stick aluminum coating protection.

Refractory mortar repair material: white filling molding material, very suitable for hot top casting industry. It can be widely used in the paste of liquid aluminum flow channels and manifolds, and can also be used as a filling material. It can also be widely used in various ceramic refractory materials in contact with molten aluminum, and has good heat preservation and sealing effects. It can be used as a sealing repair material for furnace lining or refractory board. It can also be used to fill the protective layer of an automatic casting spoon.

Features of aluminum ingot mold coating:

Protect metal molds and extend mold life.
Promote demoulding of castings and prevent adhesion and accumulation of oxides.
Control the heat flow from the casting alloy to the metal mold.
Improve the surface finish of castings.
