Ceramic Foam Filtering Technology in Molten Aluminum

The quality of aluminum melt is very important, and it greatly affects the subsequent processing performance and the quality of the final product. Therefore, all countries in the world wish the purification of aluminum melt very seriously. Ceramic foam filtering technology has been used to remove inclusions in molten aluminum for more than 30 years. After being successfully used in production practice, it quickly replaced various filter carriers such as glass cloth, microporous ceramic tubes, alumina balls, and was widely used in primary aluminum production and aluminum processing industries in various countries.

Among them are the foam ceramic filter filtering technology successfully developed by the United Aluminum Corporation of the United States, and the SIVEX ceramic filter plate produced by the British Foseco. The ceramic foam filter plate produced by AdTech is the most widely used in China.

Ceramic Foam Filtering Technology

This kind of foam ceramic filter plate has a network pore structure, has a certain strength, can withstand the pressure difference of the metal liquid level and the impact of the metal flow, but it is brittle and fragile. Since this ceramic foam material has a precise structure, uniform quality, and large surface area, it has an excellent filtering effect.

There are many reasons for aluminum pollution. On the one hand, during the smelting process, aluminum is exposed to the atmosphere in the furnace in a molten or semi-molten state, which is prone to oxidation, reacts with water vapor to absorb hydrogen, and easily forms various forms of non-metallic slag.

On the other hand, part of the scraps that make up the charge brings some non-aluminum impurities in the circulation process. Because the waste comes from the process waste, geometric waste and off-plant waste in each process of the factory, the route is different, the composition is complicated, and the quality is poor.

The above-mentioned impurities often cause bubbles and inclusions in the casting slab, which seriously affect the purity of the molten metal, thereby further affecting the processing performance, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and product appearance quality.

Nowadays, there are various methods to remove these harmful substances and purify the aluminum melt. According to the different methods, these methods can be divided into two categories: in-furnace treatment and out-of-furnace continuous treatment (that is, on-line treatment). According to the role, it can be divided into two types, mainly degassing or slagging. AdTech offers online degassing unit and plate filtering unit for degassing and filtering slag.
